As we grow older and more feeble we find that the easy tasks in life continue to get more difficult. The simple cooking of a meal becomes a nightmare and undesirable. the boring laundry day involves too many gadgets and heavy lifting. Our energy level runs out quickly and we can be left standing whit-out a clue to where we are actually at.
Our alone time sings loudly with emptiness even though our family is only a telephone call away. Speaking of telephones, the buttons have become smaller and our family's always pushing that tiny cell phone on us, the one that has so many features that it only frustrates us due to the fact that we can no longer learn how to use it and when it rings, we know that we only have a short time to answer it before we lose who was calling...again complete frustration!
Maybe God's plan is to make us have a harder time as we grow older so that the after life seems more appealing and therefore easier to except.
Well, to assist your parents in this area is extremely difficult and time consuming. the first thought that you should have is, "This will be me some day" That is where you decide to go beyond just talking on the phone and actually visit and interact with them. Take them to a hot dog stand! To them it's like visiting Disney land after being couped up in the same environment for a long period of time.
AH Yes, The good ole' hot dog. This is a must!
Take Grandma out to get a new Hair piece or an Ice cream cone.
The Main thing here is, show them that you love them just the way they are. Our elders truly believe that we no longer desire to around them cause of the assistance that they need is a burden on you. They still worry about you even though their life is much harder than yours...THEY STILL CARE! Put your mind to work and go help a Senior Citizen have one great day after another and the rewards will be like Solomon's treasure. The real treasure will be felt in you heart and spirit.
